Course Objective / Aims
- This qualification aims to provide an advanced treatment qualification for Level 4 qualified practitioners who wish to add advanced radiofrequency microneedling technology to their range of treatment services.
- Upon completion of this unit, learners will:
- LO1 Evaluate safety considerations when providing radiofrequency microneedling treatments
- LO2 Evaluate accepted protocols and guidelines for radiofrequency microneedling treatments
- LO3 Analyse the uses, limitations, benefits, and effects of radiofrequency microneedling techniques
- LO4 Formulate consultation, planning, and preparation protocols for radiofrequency microneedling treatments
- LO5 Demonstrate proficiency in applying radiofrequency microneedling techniques
Learning Hours
- The course totals 34 hours of Total Qualification Time (TQT), including 14 hours of Guided Learning Hours (GLH).
Entry Requirements
- Learners must hold a Level 4 beauty therapy qualification that includes skin microneedling techniques or equivalent.
- Learners must be 18 years or older.

Unit UBT459: Provide Radiofrequency Microneedling Techniques
- LO1: Evaluate safety considerations when providing radiofrequency microneedling treatments
- Suppliers' and manufacturers' instructions for safe use
- Absolute and relative contraindications
- Contraindications requiring medical referral and referral process
- When to consult with other aesthetic professionals
- Hazards and risk management
- LO2: Evaluate accepted protocols and guidelines for radiofrequency microneedling treatments
- Factors to consider in treatment planning
- Skin characteristic assessment
- Pre- and post-treatment care advice
- Treatment timing and intervals
- Pain threshold and sensitivity variations
- Pre-treatment skin sensitivity and patch testing
- Preparation and selection of equipment and accessories
- Preparation of treatment area

- Treatment-related adverse reactions

Assessment Requirements
- Unit UBT459: Provide Radiofrequency Microneedling Techniques
- Case Studies – Minimum of 6 case studies, to be completed and passed prior to the practical examination
- Assignment – Short Answer Response (SAR), covering knowledge and understanding of LO1 and LO3
- Theory Examination – Externally set and marked
- Practical Examination – Conducted by an external examiner, pass mark 70%
Assignment Requirements
- Unit UBT459: Learners must complete a Short Answer Response (SAR) assignment for this unit, which constitutes part of the internal assessment. The assignment covers knowledge and understanding from LO1 and LO3.

- Theory Examination: Externally set and marked
- Practical Examination: Externally set and marked, conducted on-site by an external examiner
- Assignment: Externally set, internally marked
- Case Studies: Externally set, internally marked, sampled by external examiner
